Peter Mathers began his guitar studies at the age of 12 studying at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Ten years later he completed a Bachelor of Music in Performance at the University of Toronto. The love affair with the guitar began in a dream at age four when Peter saw himself playing the guitar in a large auditorium. In an attenmpt to fulfill his dream, the eager young Peter pressed his parents to purchase him one, but wasted no time to construct a simulation with pieces of wood and wires, with which he happily entertained himself and his friends. Finally at age 12, his parents gave in and acquired Peter, a guitar. Peter's interest in the finger-picking style was inspired by guitar heroes, Jose Feliciano and Joe Pass. It was this that led him to his formal studies. As a teeanger, Peter intially set out to impress his friends by playing popular songs but was soon lured away. He began to play classial guitar at age 15, totally oblivious to peer pressure. After graduation, Peter realized that his Bachelor of Music Performance degree would not lead him to a wealth of job prospects. Preferring to spending time establishing a name in the classical world, he found residence at the Toronto Airport Hilton providing background music. Here he learned to temper his music vision, arranging in different styles to meet audience requests. |
